Final Digital Prototype

Throughout developing Escape Earth we created a simple sci-fi platformer that includes the main mechanic of hiding from enemy bots. The process gave its unique set of challenges and was not a necessarily linear process. 

Some of our main challenges were coding and working with the template’s code. Finding out how to add mechanics around it proved very complicated. There was also the discrepancy between the amount we wanted for the game and the time that we had to work on it so scoping down was a significant part of the process. And while doing so we ended up having to cut some of the art created for the game due to there not being enough time/people to code the mechanics that would go with it. Such as crouch mechanics, a secondary enemy, and added items to the player. Some of the additional art is below.

                       

Despite the things we had to leave out we were still able to make a couple of platformer levels with assets in the environment the player can interact with. Since last week’s in-class showcase, we were able to fix the final bug that was causing the enemies to not move consistently with the ground. So now the bot movement is improved between idle and chasing so the player can successfully avoid them by hiding.
